Bowman Cycles: a brief introduction.

What’s that you say? Another bike brand?
Do we really need one? What’s going to be different?
We had some thoughts, spent time fettling, testing, making alterations and repeating the process. We came to the conclusion that yes, there is a reason, there can be differences, and yes, we would do it - so here we are: a brief introduction to Bowman Cycles

Well, It’s fair to say there are a lot of bike brands available to todays cyclist, and many great bikes on the market. We need to reiterate that, there are a lot of really, really good bikes out there. So why do we want to add another? It’s simple really, the performance oriented cyclist who spends their own, often somewhat limited, funds isn’t actually that well catered for, in our opinion.

We will be expanding on some points raised in this post in the future but suffice to say, the constant research, development and improvement in aluminium tubing manufacture has opened up the options for small companies to offer bikes that can compete with the ubiquitous low and mid range composite frames that dominate this middle market. A huge range of tubing profiles and butting options, lower cost tooling charges for alterations and the ability to offer exactly the defined frame geometry we want rather than a ‘goldilocks’ best middle ground: these all interlink to allow us to design the type of bikes we want to ride. Yes, there will be better available, but they are going to cost a whole chunk of money.

Be aware, aluminium is making a comeback. Don’t believe it? Besides us as little new guys and the mid-size companies that are focusing on this resurgence in aluminium technology, even the biggest players in the market place are joining the game. S-Works Allez anyone? Cannondale CAAD 10? Giant’s Omnium frameset? When balancing performance against your bucks, everyone with the nous is getting involved.

That’s got to be worth considering, hasn’t it?
